Where it all began

The first Tata Mata opened in 2015 in an old villa at Dalmatinska 98.

Konoba & Wine Bar Tata Mata

“Tata mata” is a well-known Serbian saying used to describe excellence. With that in mind, we chose the name in 2015, when we opened our first restaurant. A classic Dalmatian and seafood cuisine is the foundation of our creation, while modern cooking techniques provide a way for us to be leaders in the rich Belgrade restaurant scene.

Our first restaurant was at Dalmatinska 98, in one of the few remaining pre-war houses with a garden, whose shine and dignity we restored with a complete renovation. The house belonged to the well-known Serbian and Yugoslav director, actor and professor at the Academy of Dramatic Arts, whose stage bears his name today, Mata Milošević. It was Mata’s name that was our first guiding star. Wishing to preserve his memory and not harm his reputation, we nevertheless chose excellence, which over time we managed to achieve.

What the villa offered

Individual experience

Private room

Set in a separate part of the house, the private room offered individual service, a separate ventilation system, its own entrance and toilet, and complete privacy in 30 m2. It suited romantic dinners, business meetings and small private celebrations, for up to 10 people.

The rental price was 24,000 dinars.

Premium wine pairing

Wine cellar

The city’s largest wine display case and a “community” table stood in the house’s wine cellar, where premium wine tastings were paired with a specially created menu.

There were three signature tastings, each with 3 to 6 wine labels depending on the number of guests, for groups of 2 to 8:

• Premium Serbian wines • Premium wines of the region • Premium French wines

A tasting lasted 3 hours and was led by an expert sommelier. The price was from 12,000 dinars per person.
